is about surreal landscapes

Mount Bromo (known as Gunung Bromo in the local language of Bahasa) is an active volcano. It is part of the Tengger Massif region in East Java, Indonesia, which is one of the most visited tourist attractions in all of East Java. This volcano is a part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. If you are wondering what does 'Bromo' means, per the locals, the term ‘Bromo’ is derived from the Javanese pronunciation of ‘Brahma, which is the Hindu creator god'

Sunrise at Bromo🌄

The most beautiful thing about visiting a South-east Asian country is it's sunrise. The view of a volcano with a backdrop of sunrise is even more beautiful and enchanting to look at. There are various options to do the trek- you can go with a tour guide who will take you a 4x4 jeep or you can go walking for about 15KMs. You can do the trek at point of the day, however most preferred timing is early morning.

Reaching Bromo 🚗

Mount Bromo is a 45-minute walk from the village of Cemoro Lawang. The nearest cities/towns are Malang or Probolingo. I used Cemoro Lawang as a base to visit Mt Bromo. You can use Malang/Probolingo/Surabhaya depending on your route, since I started out from Bali, I chose to do Mt Ijen followed by Mt Bromo. I booked a homestay close to Mt Bromo so that I could walk to the view points and also enjoy the sunset from the homestay.

Hey Bro,mo!🌋

As the sun rose, the first glimpses of Mt Bromo had us all appalled. It was surreal to look at the volcano and the silhouettes of sunrise made it even more impressive. It would be unfair to compare the sunrise at Mt. Bromo and Mt. Ijen, but in my personal opinion, the sunrise at Mt Ijen was breathtaking.

Did a bunch a stupid things while taking photos that I won't regret. :p

Useful things to Note:

  1. Mt Bromo is an active Volcano, before you visit this do place check with the locals/online if it's open and there no restrictions to trek here.
  2. Carry some warm clothes as the temperatures drop to sub-zero in the mornings
  3. Carry a mask if you are planning to go near the craters, as it emits toxic gases and it can be harmful
  4. You can either pre-book your trip with a tour guide or do it all by yourself. It is not that hard to do it by yourself. I did it all by myself.
  5. I stayed close to Bromo and walked up to the view-point in the morning. If you want to go near the crater via sea of sands, you can hire a scooter or join someone in their jeep, whatever is feasible.
  6. Since most of the near-by places to Mt Bromo are deserted, carry good supplies of water and essentials if need be.
